A quick flight out from their home in Dallas and Mara & George’s Desert Botanical Garden engagement photos were in the books!

I asked them to tell me the story of how they met:

It was early 2013 in Tempe, Arizona at a going away happy hour for one of George’s coworkers. Mara had plans to hang out with a friend who was going to the event and they decided to stop by. Mara spotted George from across the restaurant and asked her friend make the introduction. Despite George and Mara both working at the US Airways headquarters a few floors apart, they hadn’t ever seen each other until then. For two weeks, George didn’t give in to Mara’s advances, even when she showered him with Valentine’s Day candy, the prospect of a mid-day frozen yogurt date, and what can only be described in hindsight as overtly obvious signals.

Serendipity, however, struck again when Mara and George, unbeknownst to each other, happened to both volunteer for the same Care Team training class, and became partners that had to perform together in front of the whole class. The chemistry was palpable and finally the boy came to his senses. George came up with a cheeky message to her work email (he still didn’t have her phone number), asking Mara to join him at the pool, and she said yes. Before she left the pool that day, George asked Mara if he could take her on a proper date and the rest is history.
