What a perfect afternoon for Jenna & Sam’s Desert Botanical Garden engagement photos! Even though they are getting married out of state, they wanted their engagement photos to reflect their home and where they fell in love.
I asked Jenna to tell me about how she and Sam met, and how he proposed:
“I had just moved back from LA. My girlfriends and I were out at a bar in Scottsdale when our friend Kevin walked in. Walking in with him was a handsome man who happened to be almost 7 feet tall. Being 6 feet tall myself, I take notice when a guy like that walks into the room. I immediately told my girlfriends I was calling dibs, and I walked over to introduce myself. Throughout the night we would chat for awhile, then he’d leave to do a lap around the bar and then come back. Eventually I ended up leaving, and he never got my number. After a couple more times running into each other, we finally exchanged information and he asked me out on our first date.
We got engaged in McCall, ID on the Fourth of July. My dad has a place up there, and it’s my favorite place in the world. That afternoon we went on a walk up behind the house with our dog Henry. I remember thinking Sam was acting really weird–he kept babbling and talking about trees for no reason. About 10 minutes into the walk, he all of a sudden stopped walking, and said, ‘I can’t walk any further.’ I was confused, thinking how out of shape are you, we’ve been walking for 10 minutes!
Then he dropped to one knee, and I thought he was messing with me. I kept telling him to get up and that he wasn’t funny. When he pulled out the ring box, I still thought he was messing with me. When he opened it and I saw the ring, I literally said, ‘Holy sh–, you’re serious!’ He asked me to marry him, and I don’t think I even said yes for a few minutes. I was just jumping on him, but finally I said yes and he put the ring on my hand. Then we walked back to the house and my dad’s whole side of the family was there. Not everyone knew, so it was so fun to walk in and surprise them all.”
