A warm, sunny day in early spring in Arizona set the stage for Niki & Steve’s El Chorro wedding. Their outdoor ceremony and al fresco reception beneath the backdrop of Camelback Mountain was perfectly romantic with a hint of desert elegance.
I asked them each to tell me about how they met, and when they knew each other was the one:
Niki: “Steve moved to Arizona 6 years ago, and shortly after, he started hanging out with a group of guys. These guys happened to be all my closest friends from ASU. It seemed as though any weekend he was with them, I couldn’t be there, and vice versa. I kept hearing about this ‘friend’ and had no idea who he was. Finally one day, Steve saw a picture of me on our friend’s Instagram, and immediately had him introduce us. So, Steve and I both showed up to our friend’s for Sunday Night Football, but Steve stayed all of 10 minutes because he was so nervous. But the next night, he redeemed himself.”
Steve: “I knew immediately that Niki was the one. After I first met Niki at my friend’s house, I knew I wanted to see her again and get to know her. I thought I blew it because I was so nervous, barely talked, and was only there for a few minutes. Luckily we got together the next night for Monday Night Football, and talked the entire night until three in the morning. I knew then something was special. There are a few moments I would say I knew she was the one–a combination of emotions from those first two nights, our first date after our soccer game at 11pm where we went to RA Sushi because that was the only place open and we sat outside because we smelled from the game, and the night she met my parents.”
Niki: “The second night we met, we stayed up all night talking. I had never connected with someone like we did that night, and I was so excited for what those hours could become. He took me to get Starbucks the next morning (which was so sweet, yet totally necessary because we slept for 3 hours and had a full day of work ahead). I immediately texted all my best friends and told them I had just met my future husband, and I knew my life would never be the same. I knew he was a keeper when he met my family a couple months later, and they all loved him immediately.”
