These two Oklahomans have a special connection to Scottsdale, so what better place to get married and share their Silverleaf wedding photos! Silverleaf is one of the most beautiful venues in the valley, with Tuscan inspired architecture, tons of stone work and gorgeous mountain views. Sarah is a fabulous photographer herself, and it’s always an honor when another photographer asks me to document the first day of their marriage!
I asked them each to tell me about how they met and how they knew each other was the one:
Sarah: We had both gone to the same college (OU) and had some mutual friends, but never really interacted much until we both found ourselves living in Dallas at the same time. We both remember one specific night when we both lived in Dallas that we both really noticed each other. It was at Christie’s sports bar, one of Colby’s FAVORITE spots (he would have had our wedding there if he could). We were with a bunch of mutual friends watching an Oklahoma basketball game. The connection started that night and the rest is history!
I remember the specific night I knew Colby was the one. We were at a friend’s brother’s wedding in Ponca City, OK. I literally only knew like 3 people there, but it was such a fun night. I just remember feeling so mushy and in love that night. That was the first time I had ever actually been able to picture my own wedding and more importantly the face of the person who will be next to me.
Colby: She was so unique in so many ways, and I was instantly attracted to her. Whether it is her beautiful appearance or the very refreshing way she carries herself, there is certainly nobody like Sarah, and I am lucky to have found her.
The moment I realized how passionate and diligent Sarah was with her profession I knew she was the one. I already had different feelings about her than I had ever had about anyone else, but adding that admiration and respect completed my circle of thoughts around her being the perfect one for me.
I’m so happy for you both and excited for your new journey together! Thank you for trusting me to be there on your big day and best wishes in your marriage!

Libby & Kurt’s DC Ranch wedding photos are a something out of a dream! I had been anticipating this wedding for months… Libby designed all the paper goods and signage and posted little sneak peeks throughout the year and I just knew this wedding would be off the hook. Their colorful floral elements and gold accents tied into every aspect of the day–from the invitation suite, to the signage, to the linens and cake. But the real stars of the day were Libby & Kurt and their incredibly sweet love for each other, and the genuine support from their family & friends. It was truly an honor to be a part of their day and one that I won’t soon forget.
These two high school sweethearts are from Nebraska and now live out near the Big Apple. They had a gorgeous destination wedding in Scottsdale with all their closest family & friends. I asked Libby to tell me about how Kurt proposed:
It was December 11th, 2015. We were heading off to get in the Christmas spirit by going to see the Rockettes in Rockefeller Center with my parents, who had flown in for the weekend. The show ended at about 11 p.m. and as we were walking out, we started walking over to see the Christmas tree in the center of Rockefeller. Kurt and I started making our way towards the center of the tree to get the perfect picture. As we found the perfect spot among the masses of the people, an area where we were standing had cleared out. My parents started snapping picture after picture.
When we had finally taken what felt like our 50th picture, Kurt took my hand and said, “How about we take a picture like this?” and then got down on one knee! I instantly started screaming, jumping up and down, and crying as he said, “Will you be my better half?” In the midst of my uncontrollable emotions I screamed “YES!!!” Kurt then stands up, throws his hand in the air and screams “SHE SAID YES!!!” …our nearest and dearest 5,000 friends started clapping and screaming… what a magical moment!
So happy for you two!! Congrats and best wishes!!

Mozelle & Don’s Westin La Paloma wedding photos were so incredibly elegant and regal, reflecting their day perfectly. The joining of two big families and cultures, it was a fabulous wedding surrounded by their closest loved ones! I asked Mozelle to tell me about a favorite moment from when they first started dating, and when they knew each other was the one:
“We rekindled our relationship at our friend’s wedding, which Don officiated. The wedding was in San Diego, and it was the first time that we’d really spent more than a couple of hours together. We flew out separately and met up to drive out to the wedding location. We spent the early afternoon together, and it was clear that we’d both missed each other, but we were both still nervous, and terribly excited. The wedding was a perfect venue for us to reconnect, as Don gave a really emotional speech for the couple getting married, and his presence and candor really showed me a different side of him. Finally, as the wedding was small, we spent the entire reception together, without leaving each other’s side, which made us feel really connected, although it was really the first time we’d been together.
There’s a specific moment for the both of us when we were still living apart in different states. Don was living in Chicago at the time and we both had an incredible day in the City, exploring, and just being close to one another. We both felt this feeling of effervescence–this airy, light feeling of sort of walking on air, with one another. The day ended with both of us telling each other that we loved one another for the first time.”
I’m so happy for you both! Congrats and best wishes!

It was a very warm and windy day for Andrea & John’s Secret Garden wedding photos, but these two were still full of energy and laughter all day long!
I asked Andrea to tell me about how John proposed:
“December 12th, 2015: That Friday night John had his office holiday party at El Chorro. The moment we walked into the door I could feel how special it was. Romantic lights, outdoor fireplaces blazing, and lush lemon trees lining the beautiful garden. The entire time you couldn’t help but dream of the amazing wedding you could have there, and I just so happened to mention it some of the ladies that night. Toward the end of the evening, John asked if I wanted to walk through the property, as it’s a large venue. We strolled in candlelight to the open ceremony area that overlooks Camelback Mountain. As I was truly amazed by the beauty surrounding us, John looked over at me and began to talk. As he started, he pulled at the ring, and to my amazement, I gasped:
Me: Are you really doing this?
John: Yes, do you want me to get down on one knee?
Me: I mean… Yes if you’re doing this right now!
Laughing in the moonlight, he kneeled and put the ring on my finger. He said to keep it on the DL, as we had plans the next day, so that night we just kept it between us. It was super nice to just have time together. The next morning we woke up and hiked Papago Mountain. When we got back, both of our entire families were waiting for us as a surprise! The night John rented out Coups Des Tartes restaurant and we had a beautiful celebration uniting two families. It was truly a very special night. Afterwards, all the siblings went out for a night in Old Town… needless to say, it was one for the books.”
Congrats you two!
